Filling out the renewal form asks me tough questions like how much I weight (I don't own a scale), how tall I am (I don't have a long enough tape measure) and what colour are my eyes (they're, uh, mottled?). I'm not sure what I put down on the last one (a lot of things have changed since then), so I made due. Shining a really bright light into your eye in front of a mirror really helps reveal how beautiful the iris is and leaves a white streak in your line of sight for many minutes afterwards.
One of the neat things that I've had to decide was whether I wanted to renew it now, two months before travel, or wait until the start of July for the new 10 year ePassport. Not having to renew it again for another decade almost sounds like fun. However, along with the new passports comes increases in passport fees, which I'm not interested in paying right now. Also, it would leave a small window of just one month to have my new passport delivered, which would make me nervous.
Besides, I've already missed out on one impromptu trip across the border this year, I don't want to miss out on another because of a passport!
