Good night Rogers. Today I cancelled my Internet plan with them. At the threat of it, they offered to reduce my rates, but I disdain the corporation for enough reasons that I could not be bribed to compromise my principles.
This is in strong contrast to when I tried to break up with Vonage. I've had Vonage for over 6 years, and the number and service has been an integral part of my life. I felt hostage for a little while when they were still charging $40/month in contrast to the more common $30 (or less) for VoIP services, but I remained with them also because I adore their quality, service, and attitude.
However, I have a cell phone now, with another wonderful provider (WIND Mobile), which has made Vonage totally redundant. The only concrete things WIND lacks is my old phone number (I ended up giving out my temporary number to too many people and then cancelled the delayed port) and voicemail-in-my-e-mail. Ultimately, sentiment and the promise of more relevant, future services in service persuaded me to negotiate a reduced, low rate for six months, while I try to find out if there's any point in maintaining it. (e.g. if I move out of a WIND Mobile zone, I'd want to use Vonage.)
