At one point, they talked about lying to kids about what they're served as food, in the context of killing 10-month old goats that they're attached to, so that they wouldn't refuse to it. I'm glad that a child's sentimentality can be humane. I usually just ignore conversation like that. What bothered me today was when some young folk with developmental differences came in to eat and one was producing a lot of noise, my acquaintances started complaining about them being brought out in public, and commented how they should have been aborted. There's no understanding about the loud subject's experience. It's just a selfish preference for one's stable, calm environment over another's freedom and life. It was also conversation that could easily be offensive to the incoming group, and was completely audible. Rather than arguing and making their opinion more visible, I just rose and left.
Bleh.
